Images on The Foods That Shaped Us come from several sources. A visible credit and the metadata attached to an image identify its known provenance. The presence of an image on this website does not by itself grant permission to reproduce it.

Terms for Publication-Controlled Images

Images credited to The Foods That Shaped Us Research Desk are prepared or commissioned for this publication. Reuse requires written permission unless a different license is displayed beside the image. Permission may specify the publication, placement, attribution wording, resolution, duration, and whether commercial use is allowed.

Third-Party and Public-Domain Images

Images credited to a museum, archive, photographer, government body, Wikimedia Commons contributor, or another external source remain subject to that source's terms. Follow the source and license links shown beside the image. The Foods That Shaped Us cannot grant rights it does not control.

Synthetic and Digitally Composed Images

Some editorial illustrations are created with generative or compositing tools. When that provenance is known, the image metadata identifies the relevant digital source type. These images illustrate a subject; they are not documentary photographs of historical events, people, or places.

Corrections and Missing Credits

If an image credit, source, license, or provenance label appears incomplete or incorrect, contact us with the page URL and supporting documentation. We review image issues under our Corrections Policy.

Request Permission

Email hello@thefoodthatshapedus.com with the image URL, the page where it appears, the intended publication or project, expected audience, placement, and whether the use is commercial. A request is not approved until written permission is issued.
