U.S. purchase guide
Which Tahini Should You Buy for Hummus, Dressing, and Baking?
Two sesame pastes compared by seed-only formulas, jar size, unit price, kosher claims, and whether the jar is a U.S. chef brand or a hulled Middle Eastern staple.

Purchase verdict
For a U.S. roasted-sesame jar with kosher and vegan claims, Soom 16 oz Premium Tahini is the documented chef-brand option here. Al Arz 16 oz lists hulled sesame seeds only and had the lower observed unit price. Both are 16 oz sesame pastes; they have not been blended side by side in hummus here.

Why two sesame-only jars can still behave differently
A label that lists only sesame seeds does not disclose roast temperature, mill fineness, or how fast oil rises. Soom’s roasted U.S. jar and Al Arz’s hulled paste can both be hummus ingredients and still need different stirring and liquid in a recipe. That is why this page stops at formula and price.
Kosher and vegan claims are useful filters. They are not a bitterness score.
How to choose tahini for hummus or baking
For hummus, both 16 oz jars can occupy the sesame-paste role on paper. Choose Soom when the documented U.S. brand claims and roasted-sesame positioning matter. Choose Al Arz when the same jar size at a lower observed unit price is the constraint and hulled sesame is acceptable.
Opened tahini lasts longer when kept cool and stirred. A cheaper unit price is wasted if a half-jar oxidizes in a warm cupboard.
